Princess Suri wins impressively
The 3-1 shot Princess Suri gave trainer Shaffique Khan another feature race success when the three-year-old chestnut filly romped home by 3 3/4 lengths from Wots To Report in the main event on Day 15 of the Arima Race Club (ARC) racing season, yesterday.
With the well supported Maha Rja being withdrawn, the race was robbed of some interest.
Ronald Ali had the Sraj Hayban owned thoroughbred at the head of affairs after 200 metres and she quickened away impressively from 500 metres out to win as she pleased.
Early in the race, Valorous threatened to take a hand in the finish with Blue Oracle in contention with Rocket Wheels, Desert Dancer and the Gatsby.
Coming to the corner Princess Suri opened up a four-length lead on Valorous with Blue Oracle coming under pressure as Wots To Report made his move on the outside with Eye See You.
With 300 metres left, the bird had flown and Princess Suri and Ronald Ali had a commanding lead on her field.
However, favourite Wots To Report stayed on well to be second with Valorous and Rocket Wheels following.
The winner’s time was a good 1:12.75.
Riding honours for the day fell to Frederick Franklin Gonzalez, who rode two winners. Trainer Ramesh Ramroop was the day’s leading conditioner, saddling two winners in Pearl Secret and Pure Pleasure on the ARC eight-race card.
