Trainer O’Brien suspended
John O’Brien, T&T’s champion horse race trainer has been suspended by the Arima Racing Club (ARC) for a month following a meeting on Tuesday.
In a news release yesterday from the ARC it pointed out that it conducted an inquiry into a report from the club’s Racing Secretary on an Incident of verbal abuse involving trainer John O’ Brien.
According to the release: “The Board after hearing the evidence of Somdath Maharaj, the Racing Secretary of the Arima Race Club, Wade Stone, Cashier of the Arima Race Club, Nicholas Chadee, the Assistant Racing Secretary of the Arima Race Club, and John O’ Brien, the trainer /owner found as follows:
Champion trainer O’ Brien was guilty of improper behaviour and in breach of Rule 69 (2) and (3) of the Rules of Racing. Accordingly, the Board has agreed to suspend O’ Brien’s Trainer’s and Owner’s licences for a period of one (1) month effective from March 26, 2018 to April 24, 2018.
During the period of his suspension, and in accordance with Rule 42 (20), O’Brien will not be permitted entry into any restricted areas (The Paddock Area, the Trainer’s Stand and the Parade Ring/ Saddling Enclosure. He will however, be allowed to visit the Grand Stand on race days, as well as the offices of the Arima Race Club.”
