Rugby men, women off to Mexico tourney
T&T’s senior men’s and women’s National Rugby Seven-A-Side Teams are set to participate in the 2017 Rugby Americas North (RAN) Sevens Tournament from November 25 and 26, 2017 at Campo Marte.
The teams will have to travel to the high altitudes of Mexico City, Mexico next week for what is considered the most important tour in the history of the sport as it serves as a qualifier for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, CASCO/CAC Games, Rugby World Sevens, RAN Sevens and for a place at the 2018 Hong Kong HSBC Sevens qualifier.
President of the TTRFU, Leslie Figaro, said he was excited about the teams’ qualification.
He said he had viewed some of their training sessions and had seen the enthusiasm and dedication of both teams.
Figraro said after the women’s triumph in the RAN Women’s 10s Championship in July 2017 in Miami, Florida, the men would be going all out to equal this feat.
Manager of the women’s team, Jenilee Limada, said the women had been very dedicated in training, with some of the players even taking their vacation leave to train for the tournament.
Manager of the men’s team, Curtis Nero, said that this was one of the best prepared teams to leave T&T’s shores.
