North East Stars will be keen to end a three-match league winless streak and solidify its hold on top spot when they meet Club Sando in a top-of-table T&T Pro League match at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva from 6pm today.

The Derek King-coached Stars last won a Pro League match on July 28, 3-2 over Police FC at the Arima Munucipal Stadium, Arima followed by a loss to Pt Fortin Civic (1-0) and draws against Central FC (1-1) and San Juan Jabloteh (1-1) last Tuesday.

However, on Saturday last Stars got back to winning ways, 5-1 over Super League outfit, Siparia Spurs in their T&T Football Association FA Trophy Round One clash and still lead the ten-team Pro League table with 18 points from nine matches, one ahead of W Connection and Club Sando.

San Juan Jabloteh is next with 14 points followed by Defence Force two points back, and struggling three-time defending champions, Central FC, with ten, level with Police FC.

A win for Stars, will make certain of remaining in top spot no matter the outcome of the encounter between W Connection and Central FC which follow at the same Couva venue two hours later.

Club Sando, coached by Angus Eve won its FA match with Northern Football Association’s Cultural Roots 2-1 on Saturday to stretch its unbeaten run to seven matches and will be no pushovers as they continue their push for an unlikely Pro League title.

However, any slip-up by the Sangre Grande-based club which is chasing a first Pro League league title, will leave the door open for W Connection, 12-0 victors over Tamana United in the FA competition on Sunday to go top as well as it leads on goal-difference and is fancied to take full points against a depleted Central FC, which has seen the departure of coach Dale Saunders, along with some key players in recent times due to financial problems at the club.

Central FC also enter the match on the back of a shock 2-0 loss in the FA to Pro League rivals Morvant Caledonia United.

Down at the St James Police Training Barracks, from 6pm, Police FC which is coming off a 3-0 thumping of Central FC followed by a 2-1 triumph over WASA in the FA home will go after another three points versus title chasing San Juan Jabloteh, 2-1 winners against Pt Fortin Civic in their last league match, backed up by a 7-0 mauling of La Horquetta XF in Saturday’s FA matches..

And in the day’s other match, Pt Fortin Civic, which hammered Red Hill FC 5-1 in the National FA entertains Morvant Caledonia United at Mahaica Oval, Pt Fortin from 6pm.
