Shiva Boys drops a handful on Speyside
South Zone League champions Shiva Boys Hindu College demolished Speyside High 5-0 for their second victory in as many matches in the Premier Division of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) at yesterday.
And afterwards Shiva manager Sheldon Maharaj said despite the victory his team has shown some areas that need working on ahead of their next encounter with Fyzabad Secondary on Saturday.
Playing at the Speyside Recreation Ground, Tobago, the Southerners silenced the home crowd from as early in the 16th minute when Judah Garcia fired in the opener. With little to no resistance from the home-team the visitors grabbed a second goal from Kierron Mason in the 24th minute before securing a 3-0 cushion from Quinn Rodney in the 39th that took them to the half-time interval.
Junior Assoon and Tyrel Baptiste added two more goals after the break to complete the rout and shift their focus to Saturday’s encounter with Fyzabad, which were also winners on the day, defeating Fatima College 1-0 at Fyzabad grounds.
At QRC ground, the home team rebounded from their disappointing 0-2 loss to Speyside on Saturday last to a convincing 3-1 triumph over Trinity College Moka, courtesy a double strike by John Paul Rushford in the 3rd and 44th and another from Anfernee Stokes in the 44th. Wendell David, the QRC manager said the scoreline was not a correct reflection of the match as his team should have scored a lot more goals. The Royalians will next be at home to San Juan North Secondary on Saturday.
The biggest shock of the day however came from the West mooring Ground where the home team St Anthony’s College were clobbered 3-1 by unlikely Carapichaima East Secondary in front their home fans.
At Lewis Street in San Fernando south giants Naparima College also stormed back from a 1-2 defeat in the opening match, to a comfortable 2-0 win over Trinity College East. Ronaldo Mc Intosh got the opening goal in the 16th and Judah St Louis sealed the win with a 66th minute item.
