Miss La Reine Rive 2012, Malaika Ballantyne, will take her singing talent to a new level, when she competes in the finals of the National Women’s Action Committee’s Calypso Queen competition at the Cascadia Hotel in St Ann’s this evening at 7.30 pm.

She will perform in position number two among 16 finalists, for the title of Calypso Queen 2013. Her social commentary is entitled Target 365 and was written and composed by her father, Gregory Ballantyne. The song is a call for less crime in Laventille, urging the youth to turn the 30 days of a murder-free Laventille during the State of Emergency into 365 days without crime.

Ballantyne also competed in the Stars of Tomorrow competition last Thursday where she placed fourth. It is the first time that she has entered the national calypso arena.
