Come Fete with the Saints and have a helluva time
The Organising Committee of Fete With The Saints 2018 is hard at work putting things in place to deliver to its patrons, a production that is in keeping with the theme of this year’s event, The 2018 theme is Celebrate You which has its focus, that of celebrating and thanking the loyal patrons who have supported the fund-raising event over the past fifteen years.
At the same time, a special welcome will be extended to first-time patrons to make it easy for them to fit into the unique and exquisite experience that this event has become.
Since Fete With The Saints was established in 2003, it has grown into one of the most sought-after fetes on the Carnival calendar, especially since the organisers, the St Mary’s College Past Students’ Union moved the fete to the College’s picturesque Sports Ground at Serpentine Road, St Clair, four years ago.
One factor that has contributed to the success of the fete is the variety and abundance of food that is available.
To ensure that the patrons are kept happy in every respect, a sample survey is conducted by a professional firm to get feedback before the event ends, with such information influencing changes for the following year.
Last year’s food menu was described by most in attendance as “fantastic” and this year’s is expected to be even better, so that patrons will get more than their money’s worth. Towards this end, once more, there will be an elite cadre of caterers who list top notch event promoters among their clientele.
This list includes Berment Caterers, Boomerang Caterers, Chaud Restaurant, Rasam’s, More Vino, JM’s Grill, Shipwreck and Chef’s Palate.
This group and other accomplished chefs will provide a wide array of gourmet dishes such as Grilled Tamarind Chicken, Quinoa Tablouh, Fish and Chicken Kebabs, Roasted Kibbee, Sushi, Grilled Lamb Racks, Beef Short Ribs, Jerk Wings, Melo Chicken Wings, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Parmesan, Hungarian Beef Stroganoff, Singapore Noodles, Stuffed Crab Dumplings and Baked Lamb.
In addition, there will be a separate seafood bar serving Shrimp Cocktails, Crab Salad, Seafood Shots, Breaded Shrimp, Fish Fingers and Fish Nuggets. As if that is not enough, there will be Horse Meat, Geera Pork, Kanhai’s Roti (cooked on spot) and a very stately vegetarian station.
One will note that there is a bias towards healthily prepared dishes but we are assured that taste will not be sacrificed in any way whatsoever.
Music takes wings and soars
The musical menu will again be from the top drawer with star acts, including Machel Montano with his full band of musicians and his dancers, as well as Kes the Band which is enjoying another bumper year. Internationally renowned DJs Private Ryan and Nuphoric will supplement these two mega stars while Nailah Blackman will make her debut at Fete With The Saints this year, while reining Road March champions, Ultimate Rejects return. At this time, arrangements are being finalised with other soca artistes who are enjoying heavy rotation this season.
A river of liquor
The bar will have drinks to satisfy every taste, with a Champagne station, a Proseco station and a wine bar.. There will be two main bars, fully stocked with premium drinks, plus Angostura will provide a cocktail bar and Carib will serve draught beer from a trailer. Lovers of Johnny Walker scotch whisky can choose from the black, gold, green and platinum species of the brand. Glenfiddich single malt scotch will also be available, plus Grey Goose and Belvedere vodka, all in separate booths. A new offering has been introduced with the ultra health-conscious in mind and that is Health Juices from iOrganics Caribbean. Desserts will include Haagen Daz ice-cream, fresh fruit and an assortment of delicacies from Richie’s Desserts.

Ultimate Events, from Dean Ackin’s Tribe organisation, will again be responsible for decor and it is expected that something extraordinary will be produced to maximize the natural beauty and ambience of the lovely St Mary’s College Grounds, while remaining true to the chosen theme of ‘Celebrate You’.
Special attention is being paid to the needs of the females to ensure that they remain looking as beautiful as when they made their entrance to this grand event, in spite of how much they ‘soca down’ the place. Three beauty zones are being arranged so that the ladies can have their make-up re-touched and in one of the zones, the focus will be on hair-styling.
When the action on the stage has ended, patrons will be able to wind down in the ‘Recharge Village’, a new feature of Fete With The Saints in 2018. A wide range of breakfast type food will be served in this village, inclusive of chicken salad, corn soup, doubles, Jamaican patties, Italian meat sandwiches, souse, burgers, granola bars, coffee, juices and water. Music will be provided for those recharging their batteries before they leave for home.
Fete for a worthy cause
What is so good about this fete is that those who patronise it will get full value for their money while contributing to the funding of much needed capital and operating projects at the College. This year, profits will go towards completing the funding required for the refurbishing of the Chemistry lab which is in dire need of repair of infrastructure and upgrade of equipment.
Tickets for the event cost $975 and are available from all members of the Management Committee and from the Office of the Past Students’ Union (624-8468).
