$1.2bn Tamana park still almost empty
ETecK’s other “burden”— the Tamana Industrial Park—has so far cost $1.2 billion yet only two of its 21 sites are occupied.
ETecK also paid $150,000 for the last two-and-a-half years so far to transport four employees from Curepe to the park.
The park was unoccupied for almost seven years while requiring maintenance. Acting eTecK president Maureen Singh said there are two firm leads for two sites, one expected in April and the other in the next three months
The company is seeking leads via InvesTT to tenant the other 19 sites and there are about seven more tenants based on that effort.
Ahamad said eTecK isn’t pleased with the tenancy level, but feels InvesTT’s plan is workable.
On questions from JSC member Fazal Karim, Singh said Tamana Park is paying $60,000 annually—$150,000 in recent years to transport four staffers from Curepe to the park. Karim said it wasn’t normal practice.
Singh also said the Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre’s occupancy has been affected by the global downturn. Its upgrade has cost $518.4 million, including the $7.7million to upgrade the pool last December.
That was divided between designs done by Mocad consultants and construction costs.
